Navigating Training Formats: Online, In Person and Hybrid

One woman wearing a blue shirt high fives a woman wearing a red shirt, with more people wearing blue and red shirts laughing behind them. Everyone is standing in a field partially shaded by trees.

Embarking on a journey of learning and growth in your personal and professional life means choosing a training format that aligns seamlessly with your preferences and lifestyle. Outdoor Training Services’ (OTS) commitment to accessibility is reflected in our diverse training formats: Online, In Person, and Hybrid. Each format offers unique benefits, empowering participants to tailor their learning experience to suit their needs. Today we’re going to explore these strengths and why you might select one over another.

Online Training Benefits

  • Flexibility: Online courses provide the flexibility to learn at your own pace, accommodating busy schedules and allowing participants to access content from anywhere.

  • Cost-Efficiency: No travel expenses or time commitments associated with commuting make online training a budget-friendly option. Instructor-led options create opportunities for building community while fostering engagement with the content.

  • Global Accessibility: Reach participants from various locations, fostering a diverse and international learning community.

Online training is ideal for those with limited time, geographical constraints, or a preference for self-paced learning. We think this method is great for teams that are already established and know a good amount about the topic at hand, or when the topic relates to a subject the participants know well. We try to limit online sessions to three hours max, with an ideal range of 30 minutes - 1.5 hours.

In Person Training Benefits

  • Hands-On Experience: In person sessions offer practical, hands-on training, allowing participants to apply skills in a real world setting.

  • Immediate Feedback: Direct interaction with instructors facilitates immediate feedback and clarification, enhancing the learning experience.

  • Networking Opportunities: Build relationships with fellow participants and instructors, creating a supportive community.

Ideal for individuals and groups who thrive on in person interactions, prefer experiential learning, or value networking opportunities. We think in person training is great for teams that are newly established or that have new team members. We’d limit in person sessions to eight hours max, with an ideal range of 2-4 hours.

Hybrid Training Benefits

  • Blending Flexibility & Interaction: Combining online and in person elements, hybrid training provides a balanced approach, accommodating various learning styles.

  • Reduced Travel Commitment: Enjoy the benefits of in person interaction without the need for extensive travel, reducing time and costs.

  • Adaptable to Diverse Needs: Hybrid formats cater to diverse preferences, offering the best of both worlds for a well rounded learning experience.

Hybrid training is ideal for those seeking a balanced approach, valuing face-to-face interaction without committing to full time in person sessions. By presenting quick or simple topics online in advance, organizations with limited in person time can improve efficiency. Trainers can present the basics of a topic online before getting hands on in person. We’d recommend spending 20-40% of training time online and 60-80% in person depending on the topic and trainees.
